Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 6 months after publication on the JAMA website. In addition, the online version is freely available or nearly so to institutions in low- and middle-income countries through the World Health Organization's HINARI program.

In 2019, the median time for an initial editorial decision for submitted manuscripts was 5 days; the median time from submission to acceptance for all articles was 30 days, and 25 days from acceptance to online publication (for additional information, see the JAMA Editorial). JAMA's Impact Factor is 45.5. For more information on the types of articles published and editorial policies, see the journal's Instructions for Authors.
